One-Flap Helmets: Why the Standard?

Baseball helmets traditionally feature one flap for the batter's safety, guarding the side facing the pitcher to protect against balls thrown and wild pitches. This standard helmet design, mandated by MLB since 1983, ensures baseball head protection from projectiles, with flapped helmets becoming the norm for player safety across leagues.

Customizing Your Helmet for Enhanced Protection

For players seeking additional safeguards, Baseball360 offers helmets with customizable protection against pitches, such as dual flap helmets for ambidextrous batters and a variety of compatible facemasks, including clear options for unobstructed visibility. These accessories, like the protective guard, can be critical for players at any level—from travel ball circuit to major league level—complying with current helmet rules.

Jaw Guards and Add-Ons for Comprehensive Coverage

Baseball360's array of helmet add-ons includes:

  1. Face masks: Offering impact protection without compromising ball visibility.

  2. Dual flap helmets: Providing extra ear protection for batters hitting from both sides of the plate.

  3. Chin straps and standard jaw guards: Essential for a well-fitting baseball helmet, these help mitigate the risk of facial injury.

  4. Extended jaw guard: Attaches seamlessly to the ear guards, extending protection along the jawline.

League Regulations and Player Requirements

Each league, from minor league baseball to fastpitch softball, has its own set of helmet regulations. Baseball360 helps ensure every player eligible, from school players to seniors, meets these standards with our concussion-proof helmets, special helmets without ear flaps, and a variety of helmets in styles and sizes. Our sizing guides and batting helmet measurements are designed for you to find the closest size, ensuring essential site functionality and comfort.

Selecting the Right Baseball Batting Helmet

Before adding a baseball helmet to your cart, ensure it fits snugly to prevent risk of head injury. A perfect batting helmet should combine comfort, such as sweat-wicking liners for ventilation, with safety. For colder climates, look for helmets compatible with extra layers or liners for warmth.

It’s crucial for both Major League Baseball enthusiasts and amateur players to choose baseball helmets that are SEI and NOCSAE certified, reflecting adherence to the highest safety standards.

Youth Baseball Helmets: Tailored Protection at Baseball 360

Baseball 360’s selection of baseball helmets caters to the youngest hitters’ head protection with a variety of helmets, including earflap helmets and minimal helmets. Our experts guide you to the right product, ensuring every active player, from Major League Baseball to youth leagues, complies with league rules.

Learn More About Batting Helmets and Other Equipment

Do baseball helmets expire?

All helmets have a shelf-life. Check your helmet's expiration date, typically 10 years from manufacture, to maintain optimal protection. Damage or wear? Replace it, even if it hasn’t reached the expiry date to ensure your head is always properly shielded.

How to clean a baseball helmet?

If you really need to wash the pads inside the helmet you can wash them by hand or in the machine. If possible, remove the pads from inside the helmet, you can throw those in the washing machine and let them dry outside. For the helmet use a mild soap with a piece of cloth and wash the surface of the helmet. In no circumstances should the helmet be fully submerged in water. This can cause a lot of damage and we strongly recommend not to do it.

How to measure baseball helmet size and find the right size helmet

To make sure that you buy the right helmet, measure the circumference of your head. View our baseball helmet sizing chart that will give you the right size depending on the circumference of your head. There are many baseball helmet sizes to choose from and it can be difficult to guarantee choosing the right size. Our baseball helmet skiing chart is available both online and in store to make sure that you have the right size helmet measurements.

You can come meet us at our store and we will be able to measure the circumference of your head and find the right size helmet. Our employees are welcoming and they will be more than happy to help you pick the right baseball helmet.

Can softball players buy baseball helmets?

Baseball and softball helmets are extremely similar, they both are open-face helmets and both can have dual flap helmets. Protective helmets are all made for the same reason: to protect the head from any forced hits. You can wear a softball helmet during a baseball match and vice versa. The difference between the type of helmet used in baseball major leagues is that baseball helmets only cover one ear if the extra protection extension is not added.

What is the role of ear flaps on a batting helmet?

Ear flaps serve to protect the batter's head and ears from injury, especially from high-speed pitches.

What are open-face helmets?

Open-face helmets are batting helmets that do not have a face guard, typically used at the youth or amateur level.
